How to troubleshoot issues with projects linked to Azure DevOps

In this article, we will review the case when the synchronization with Azure DevOps is running correctly, but the Schedule section appears empty.

Please follow these steps to diagnose and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check the Project Configuration in PPM Express

1. Open the affected project in PPM Express.

2. Click the "Connect" button in the upper right corner of your PPM Express project.

3. In the "Configure Connection" menu, review the selected Azure DevOps elements for linking (Project, Team, Parent Work Item, Area, Iteration).

To understand how data synchronization works based on the selected elements, refer to the How Data is Synchronized from Azure DevOps article.

4. Click the Azure DevOps icon in the upper right corner to open the corresponding project in Azure DevOps.

Step 2: Verify Team Settings in Azure DevOps

1. If a Team is selected in PPM Express, navigate to:

  • Project settingsTeam Configuration → Select the required Team.

2. Open the Iterations tab and check which Backlog Iteration is set for your Team.

3. Open the Areas tab and check the Area Paths assigned to your Team.

4. To confirm whether the same Iteration and Area Paths are set for Work Items:

  • Navigate to BoardsWork Items in Azure DevOps.
  • Click "Column Options" and add the Iteration Path and Area Path columns.

5. Check if the Iteration Path and Area Path values of the Work Items match those specified for the Team in Team Configuration.

Step 3: Resolve Discrepancies in PPM Express

If discrepancies are found:

Go back to PPM Express, open the Configure Connection menu, and click "Delete project link".

Re-link the project, ensuring the correct Azure DevOps elements are selected. For detailed instructions, refer to our How to Link a PPM Express Project to Azure DevOps article.

If no discrepancies are found:

Contact our Support Team at support@ppm.express for further investigation. To expedite troubleshooting, please attach the following Azure DevOps screenshots to your request:

  • Iterations and Areas tabs for the corresponding Team in Team Configuration.
  • Work Items expected to appear in the linked PPM Express project, with Iteration Path and Area Path columns clearly visible.
